The committee aims to protect our nature and oppose the projects that are against nature. It tries to convince the Government to introduce eco-friendly projects. In 1990, the committee protested against Bedti project and got success to stop the project. It also opposed Hydro electricity project at Ganehfall and got success. Totally it plays vital role in protecting nature. Having realized the possible damage to nature, human and animal life if the proposed Bedti Hydro-Electric Power Project, in the Uttara Kannada district, were implemented, His Holiness started the historic peaceful foot-march (Bedti Padayatra) from Swarnavalli to Magod (the location of the Project), as a mark of protest, from 14th September, 1992 to 18th September 1992. The project would have submerged a major portion of the forest wealth and 27 villages. The objective of this protest was to draw the attention of Govt. in this matter and to educate people on these severe consequences. On the final day of the foot-march His Holiness addressed the congregation of more than 30000 people and this forced the government to reconsider the issue. The movement drew attention of the nation. For having given a call to protect environment, some of the national papers, with admiration for the Guru, called him “Green Swamiji”. At the end, the wisdom dawned upon the Government, and the project was put off.
